Rustic Canyon

When we began this project, the garden was overgrown with a large fountain that had fallen into disrepair. The space felt tiny, abandoned, and barely usable. But there were certain elements that inspired us—the plants that existed there and a couple of unique collaborative opportunities.

This client wanted to maximize their outdoor space, so we created a perimeter garden full of plants that were well-suited to the micro-climate of the property while paying homage to the chaotic tropical environment that existed before.

Then, we tackled the client’s wishlist, which included a hot tub installation, outdoor kitchen build, and a new custom-made fountain that our team member, Alizabeth Patterson, designed and built with her own hand-fired tiles.

This client owned and managed a metal fabrication business for 30 years, and we connected on the idea of corten steel as a primary material choice. It makes up the planters, the perimeter wall, and all of the doors and handles in the kitchen.

Everything about this project was intentional and unique, and our clients now have a versatile and beautiful space to make memories in.
