These clients brought us in at the end of a remodel as they were wrapping up extensive hardscaping. As a result, there was very minimal planting area. To break up all of the hard materials and lines, we installed permeable gravel between their backyard pavers with organically arranged ground cover of dymondia, and we put an emphasis on large vessels with interesting plantings. 

The clients had some unique specimens already—king palms, pigmy date palms, and a Norfolk pine. This inspired a Tulum-style garden in Venice, and we created a beachy to tropical flow of microbiomes. You’re greeted with dry, drought tolerant plants, and as you step deeper into the backyard, it gets lusher and more tropical around their sauna and outdoor shower. 

To promote the resort feel, we sourced a large limestone trough that we made into a fountain, hung carved doors that the clients had collected on their travels, and installed a one-of-a-kind mature Staghorn Fern.
